Dan Jarvis MP visited Severn Vale to learn about the work of Gloucester’s young people as they support the 14-18 Legacy, an initiative to get young people to raise £1 million for the Royal British Legion between 2014 and 2018. Mr Jarvis, who was joined by Sophy Gardiner, president of the Gloucester City branch of the Royal British Legion, has a particular interest in this work as he himself is an ex-soldier.

Mr Jarvis was impressed by the work of the students and commented that “It is an ambitious target but it is an impressive thing you are doing.” He went on to say “It is a hugely significant part of our country’s history and it is important that we reflect on it and learn from it.”

Mr Jarvis, who is the shadow justice minister, and Sophy Gardiner, the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for Gloucester, were also quizzed by GCSE Citizenship and Sociology students on a number of topical issues. The youth justice system, re-offending rates and prisoners’ right to vote were among the topics raised by students in a 30 minute Q&A session.
