English Department Trip to Poetry Live
On Monday 20th January the English Department took 50 Year 11 students to Poetry Live at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. The students had the unique and privileged experience of hearing the poems from their GCSE anthology being read aloud by some of Britain’s most renowned poets including: Carol Ann Duffy, John Agard and the country’s current Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage.
The students also partook in two examiner sessions, led by a chief examiner from AQA, where they gained an invaluable insight into how to gain marks in the poetry section of the exam.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience for the students and allowed them to be fully immersed in the richness and power of some of the nation’s most iconic poems.
