Gloucester Cathedral Performance

On Wednesday of this week, 21 KS3 and KS4 students performed at Gloucester Cathedral as a preamble to a concert by the Verity Standen Vocal group which is currently touring across the UK.
We were offered the opportunity to develop three original vocal pieces for massed voices and worked with one of the group's professional singers. Bianca was an inspiration who led each session led by her amazing voice and creative inspiration. The group performed beautifully in front of a standing audience of over two hundred and received many compliments about their performance and professionalism - they have been an absolute pleaseure to work with.
Many of the students stayed on to watch the main concert and were amazed by the vocal techniques, intensity, and sheer creativity of the group. The musical language explored was much more experimental and ambient in approach, which would be out of the comfort zone of many, yet our students were absorbed by the performance. As Isla P said "That was amazing! I'd watch that again".
This project was also made possible by our strong links with Strike a Light, and the educational outreach work they facilitate on behalf of professional arts and music organisations. We are looking forward to our future collaborations - watch this space!
