DofE Expedition

In stark contrast to the warm sunny days of the March practice expedition, the May qualifying expedition was a wintery affair with cold wet weather. This did not put off our groups with around 60 students completing either their Bronze or Silver expedition section.
The students walked between 10-15km each day over the course of 2-3 days and on the whole navigated well around the beautiful hills on the outskirts of Cheltenham. They also managed to be fully self-sufficient, setting up camp and cooking for themselves over the course of the expedition.
It is incredible seeing students step up and thrive in a different environment to what is normal for many of them. What makes this even better is despite the rain, most of them still did this with smiles on their faces.
I also couldn't be more proud of our groups when every year, Ocean Rock, who we use to deliver our expeditions, once again commented on how amazing our students were, how polite and courteous they were, how they were a credit to the school ,and how the instructors are always really pleased to be put on one of our expeditions.
Well done to all those who have completed the other three sections. There is also a large number who only have one or two sections left to sign off. It would be good if you were able to get these signed off in the next month, so we can have as many as possible receive their awards when the expedition assessor reports come in.
There is still time for those doing their Bronze Award to sign up for their Silver Award next year. Please do so via the link in the letter you were given about doing the Silver Award next year.
Finally, we would like to thank the large number of staff who give up their weekends to help support our students doing their expeditions. You should never underestimate the lift a friendly face gives them during the expedition.
