Flexible Learning Days

On Flexible Learning Days, the normal timetable is suspended to allow the students to experience a range of different learning opportunities. We have three FLDs a year. These take place in Term 2, 3 and 6.  Examples of activities the students experience on Flexible Learning Days include:

Mission Impossible

This set of activities for Year 7 will challenge the students to think creatively to solve a series of mysteries, each developing a key skill such as groupwork, evaluation and problem solving

Dragons Den

Year 8 students take part in an enterprise activity based around the popular TV series where they are challenged to design and create a Fairtrade product and market it to the “Dragons” successfully!

Healthy Lifestyles Day

Year 9 students enhance their Futures work with a day based around the development of understanding of different elements of health – physical, emotional and sexual. Students take part in First Aid workshops and a session with GayGlos amongst other things.

Careers Activities

All students in Year 10 take part in a series of Careers activities. They will work with representatives from local businesses to develop key skills in areas such as applications forms, CVs and interview techniques. In addition, they will be learning about key employment trends and learning about areas of the local economy that are growing. All students will have a mock interview with a local business person.

Post 16 Taster Days

All students in Year 11 take part in a Post 16 Taster Day. This will involve students visiting local Further and Higher Education facilities including Stroud College, Filton College and the University of Bath to experience a range of taster activities. This will give students a valuable insight into life after Severn Vale and the expectations of post 16 courses.
